What is PACKids?
For the last couple years, the local media has been covering stories about a group of area pediatricians, PACKids, who are pushing hard to build an independent, free-standing hospital dedicated to children. Come hear their story and why they think we should all care.
FACTS from PACKids
- The well-known "Children's Hospital" on Brook Road is a long-term care facility and not a place to take your child during an illness or emergency
- Our Hanover hospital doesn't have a pediatric specialist on duty in the emergency room
- We have 3 hospital systems in the Richmond area and not all have equal specialists to serve our children (which means in an emergency you have to know what hospital offers what you need)
- Philanthropists have offered more than $200 million in support of building this independent hospital
- The last puzzle piece is having VCU's Medical Center join as the academic partner for this proposed community-owned hospital
"Every family with children in the Richmond region is one health crisis away from discovering just how disconnected and difficult our health care system is for taking care of children. We have the opportunity to build a world-class hospital." PACKids.
