Our "Hanover Community Calendar" is populated with events submitted by you! This calendar highlights non-profit, special and neighbor events all across our area.

Hosting an event? If you, or an area organization, is hosting an event let us know. Event postings should follow these parameters:

    1. The event must take place within Hanover County OR be hosted by a Hanover Chamber member
    2. The event must be community focused and intended to provide support, fundraising, care or fun to area residents and chamber members
    3. Note this calendar is not intended for reoccurring seminars or group meetings, sales events or workshops given by individual for-profit companies

    When you submit events, please be sure to include the date, time, location/address, web link and an image or logo. Community calendar postings that fit our criteria will be made publicly visible on our website and in newsletters within a week of being sent to us; send events 4-6 weeks in advance for maximum exposure.       Registration Open for Citizens Police Academy

       

      Hanover, Va. – The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting its 34th session of the Citizens Police Academy. The Citizens Police Academy will take place from September 12, 2023 through November 14, 2023. The academy will be held every Tuesday between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office. There will be no cost for the participants.

       

      This program is available to Hanover residents, business owners, or employees who are at least 21 years of age.  Applicants must be willing to submit to a background check. Class size is limited and applicants will be selected on a first-come, first-accepted basis.

       

      This academy is designed to give participants an inside look into law enforcement with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. The training will consist of a variety of law enforcement topics as well as pro-active crime prevention presentations, which will give citizens a better understanding of what members of the Sheriff’s Office do on a daily basis. The goal of the academy is to foster productive relationships with citizens in our community and for them to develop a better understanding of law enforcement.

      The Mechanicsville Ruritan Club is a civic service organization formed in March 1973. Our purpose is to create a better understanding among people through volunteer community service and make America’s communities better places in which to live and work. Since 1973, the Mechanicsville Ruritan Club has raised and contributed in excess of $840,000 back to the Hanover County Community.

      This year’s golf tournament is dedicated to the Project Lifesaver Program operated by the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. The Mechanicsville Ruritan Club is a non-profit 501(C)(3) tax-exempt organization. Your entry fee is tax deductible consistent with IRS tax laws.

      8th ANNUAL HANOVER AUTUMNFEST PRESENTED BY ANTON PAAR

      Hanover, Virginia - The fall season kicks off on Saturday, September 30, 2023, with the 8th annual Hanover AutumnFest presented by Anton Paar.

      AutumnFest is Hanover Tavern Foundation’s signature community event of the year. The Tavern grounds become the backdrop for a day of food, family fun, and live music from 10am-3pm.

      The event features on-site smoked pork, beef brisket, hamburgers, hotdogs, Brunswick stew, side dishes, and fresh pies from Hanover Tavern's restaurant. In addition, there is local craft beer and wine, live music by the Anvil Brothers and Chris & Jane, as well as games and activities for the kids. Children’s activities include pumpkin decorating, petting zoo, hay slide, face painting, outdoor scavenger hunt, magic show, and kids' crafts. Admission is free and open to the public.

      Proceeds from this event benefit Hanover Tavern Foundation with a mission is to preserve, interpret, and utilize Historic Hanover Tavern as an historic, educational, community, and cultural resource center for the enjoyment of all.

      It’s our annual Fall Festival and this year will be even bigger and better!

      Bring your folding chair or picnic blanket and enjoy live music by Marshall and Company, visit the many traditional artisans and vendors demonstrating their trades and selling their wares, food trucks, children’s activities area, and 18th-century games area, alpaca petting area, and continuous open house tours.

      Many local and regional cultural partners will be there, including the Scotchtown DAR chapter, Patrick Henry’s Red Hill and St. Johns Church. The Mariner’s Museum will be joining us and will be presenting African Kingdoms. See and experience living history with numerous interpreters, including Patrick Henry, who will be delivering his famous Liberty or Death speech, the 1st Virginia Infantry, presentation of the history of tea with Kim Walters, author of “Tea in 18th Century America” and Horses in Action portraying the Mounted Dragoons of Washington’s Continental Army.  See you on October 7th! 

      The open-house tour and festival programs are both included at $15 for General Admission. Students and Preservation Virginia members are $10 and children 6 and under are free.

In 1936, George Padow opened his first grocery and retail outlet in the historic Jackson Ward area of Richmond, Virginia. Today the Company has opened Padow’s Hams & Deli at Hanover Sports Park in Hanover County continuing the tradition the family has maintained for over eighty years.

      In June 1766, two Virginians became embroiled in a tavern brawl in Cumberland County that left one of them dead and the other under a cloud of suspicion and contempt. But, Was it Murder?

      Join Scotchtown staff and our special guests for an evening of fun and spooky entertainment! We start the program with our presentation of Was it Murder in 3 acts. Afterwards enjoy cider, cookies and a discussion of mourning customs and traditions of the 18th and 19th centuries along with traditional ghost stories around a bonfire.

      Costumes are welcome. Warm clothes and comfortable shoes are encouraged. This event is hosted almost entirely outdoors. No refunds given unless the event must be cancelled by Preservation Virginia due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances. Preservation Virginia members use code PVMEMBER at checkout.
