Our "Hanover Community Calendar" is populated with events submitted by you! This calendar highlights non-profit, special and neighbor events all across our area.

Hosting an event? If you, or an area organization, is hosting an event let us know. Event postings should follow these parameters:

    1. The event must take place within Hanover County OR be hosted by a Hanover Chamber member
    2. The event must be community focused and intended to provide support, fundraising, care or fun to area residents and chamber members
    3. Note this calendar is not intended for reoccurring seminars or group meetings, sales events or workshops given by individual for-profit companies

    When you submit events, please be sure to include the date, time, location/address, web link and an image or logo. Community calendar postings that fit our criteria will be made publicly visible on our website and in newsletters within a week of being sent to us; send events 4-6 weeks in advance for maximum exposure.       Shine a Light on Hope: Hope Shines Brighter Than Fear

      Shine a Light on Domestic Violence is Hanover Safe Place’s annual online awareness and giving campaign. Follow along throughout the 36-hour campaign on HSP’s social media accounts to see the impact of our work in our community, hear from those doing the work, and from those who receive services.

      This year, Shine a Light on Hope’s theme is: Hope Shines Brighter Than Fear.

      Join us October 22nd and 23rd to see how the services that Hanover Safe Place provides inspire hope, healing, confidence and more.

      Join us at The Vines at Oakdale for a warm and welcoming afternoon, from 11am to 2pm, of heavy Hors d'oeuvres, meaningful conversation and community connection in support of Hanover Safe Place as October comes to a close. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Hanover Safe Place provides services to victims of domestic and sexual violence to residents of Hanover County. Funds raised for this event will benefit Hanover Safe Place directly.

      Off the Rails Craft Beer & Wine Festival: Brews, Boos, and BBQ

      The Stuff of Nightmares - A Gothic Literature Experience

       Saturday, October 25th

      Crumbling castles, dark foreboding landscapes, supernatural and mysterious characters, disturbing and horrifying stories!

      Spend an evening at Scotchtown and experience the true terror of the early Gothic literary movement as you meet the authors of some of the most chilling and haunting stories and novels of the 18th and 19th centuries. Guest interpreters will be portraying authors including Edgar Allan Poe, Washington Irving, Mary Shelley, and more!

      This event takes place on Saturday, October 25th and starts at 6pm. Tickets are available for the following times: 6pm, 6:30pm, 7pm, 7:30pm, 8pm, 8:30pm.

      The event is recommended for guests 8 years and older. Warm clothes and comfortable shoes are encouraged. This event is hosted almost entirely outdoors.

      General Admission $15, $10 Students/Preservation Virginia Members

      No refunds given unless the event must be cancelled by Preservation Virginia due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.

      Community Kickoff with Homes For Our Troops

      Homes For Our Troops is a privately funded 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that builds and donates specially adapted, custom homes nationwide for severely injured post 9/11 Veterans.

      Homes For Our Troops will be hosting a Community Kickoff on the morning of November 1st. During this event for Army SSG Brian Pearce, community members will have the opportunity to welcome him to the area where he has chosen to have his home built- Mechanicsville, VA!

      Deck the Halls with Hanover Safe Place

       Sunday, December 7th

      Deck the Halls, an annual holiday decoration making fundraiser, will be held at Hanover Arts and Activities Center in Ashland on Sunday, December 7, to benefit Hanover Safe Place. For a small entry donation, guests will receive three tickets for hardware (wreath forms, centerpiece bowls, vases, etc.) and three bows tickets. There will be experts to help you every step of the way. Create wreaths, swags, boxwood circles, table toppers, candle surrounds, and more. Our fresh cut greenery includes pine, cedar, hemlock, Fraser fir, holly and more. Create wreaths, swags, boxwood circles, table toppers, candle surrounds, and more! Our fresh-cut greenery includes pine, cedar, hemlock, Fraser fir, holly, nandina, and boxwood all cut from historic farms in Hanover County. You are also welcome to bring your own, recycled wreath forms!
