Episode 13: On Air with The Mater

June 18, 2019 2:09 PM | Melissa Haley (Administrator)

Since the 1920’s, radio has been one of the best connectors of people and information across the miles. From the old large, stand-alone sets with antenna to today’s tiny handheld phones, this relatively simple technology continues to be relevant and engaging.

In today’s episode, we peek into the radio dial to see how a local station, Hanover’s own 102.9 The Mater, is keeping broadcasting truly local. It’s become increasingly rare for homegrown stations to exist, let alone thrive, yet The Mater’s small crew is accomplishing great things. They take “live and local” to heart by broadcasting Hanover sports, weather, news, community updates and even commercials – in addition to all the “deep cuts” music mix. The owners and on-air personalities (aka DJ’s) live and have connections in the area.

When they’re in the studio, the crew has to be sure to flip the right switches, record the best intros and develop the finest playlists. Laptops have (mostly) replaced physical music-playing devices and digital recording is the norm. And don’t let the building fool you - a lot happens in a little space.

So, come join us for a fun visit behind the mic! Thanks to The Mater radio for this special tour.

Let’s broadcast!
